Ethical code

The Editorial Board of the international journal European Transport / Trasporti Europei, double-blinded peer-reviewed scientific journal, has adopted this code of ethics for publications, in accordance with the guidelines developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE): http://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines. Publishers, editors, reviewers and authors must know, apply and share the following ethical standards.

Duties of editors and publisher

Fair play: the editors should evaluate, with the support of the reviewers, the articles proposed for publication only for their scientific content, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnic origin, citizenship or political orientation.

Confidentiality: the publisher, editors and other staff members should protect the confidentiality of the papers and other material submitted by the authors; any information couldn’t be communicated to third parties other than reviewers without the author permission.

Conflict of interest: each editor has to declare to the Director and Publisher the existence of a possible conflict of interest that could influence the process of a paper evaluation; in that case this process should be given to another editor.

Disclosure: the publisher and editors can’t use the contents of an article proposed for publication in their own research or in other publications without the author's written consent.

Decision on publication: the decision to publish or not the submitted papers is up to the directors together with the editors and, possibly, the reviewers.

Duties of reviewers

Contribution to the editorial decision: peer review is a procedure that helps editors make decisions on the submissions and also allows the author to improve her/his own contribution. The journal European Transport/Trasporti Europei adopts a double-blinded peer review.

Review acceptance and respect of the timing: the reviewer who does not feel adequate to the proposed task or who knows that she/he cannot perform the paper review by the required deadline is required to promptly communicate it to the editors.

Confidentiality: any manuscript assigned for reading must be considered confidential; therefore, the manuscript can’t be discussed with other people or used for other purposes without the explicit authorization of the editors.

Objectivity: peer review must be conducted objectively; every personal judgment is inappropriate; reviewers are required to adequately justify their views with supporting arguments.

Indication of works: the reviewers are required to indicate precisely the bibliographic details of fundamental works that may have been neglected by the author; they must also report to the publisher and editors any similarities or overlaps of the manuscript under consideration with other published works of which the reviewer has personal knowledge and any case of suspected plagiarism.

Conflict of interest and disclosure: all information obtained during the peer-review process must be considered confidential and cannot be used for other purposes; reviewers are required not to accept manuscripts for which there is a conflict of interest due to previous collaboration or competition with the alleged author and/or her/his institution.

Duties of the authors

Access and storage of data: if editors consider it appropriate, the authors of the articles should also make available the data on which the research is based, so that they can be kept for a reasonable period of time after publication and possibly made accessible with the written consent of the authors themselves.

Originality and plagiarism: the authors are required to declare that they have composed an original work in all its parts, that they have cited all the documents used and that they have not committed any forms of plagiarism.

Indication of sources: the author should always provide the correct indication of the sources and contributions mentioned in the article.

Multiple, repetitive and/or competing publications: the author cannot propose the publication of articles describing the same research in more than one journal. Proposing the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously constitutes an ethically incorrect and unacceptable behavior. The author must therefore declare in the cover letter, when she/he submits the article, the originality of the proposed work.

Paternity of the work: the authorship of the work must be correctly attributed and all persons who have made a significant contribution to the conception, organization, realization and re- 3 elaboration of the research presented in the paper should be indicated as coauthors; if other people have participated significantly in some phases of the research, their contribution must be explicitly recognized in the acknowledgements section. In the case of co-authorship, the author who sends the manuscript to the journal is required to declare that she/he has correctly indicated the names of all the other co-authors, to have obtained their approval for the final version of the paper and their consent to the publication in European Transport/Trasporti Europei.

Conflict of interest and disclosure: all authors are required to explicitly state that there are no conflicts of interest that could have affected the achieved results or the proposed interpretations; the authors should also indicate in the acknowledgements section the eventual funding bodies of the research and/or project from which the manuscript arises.

Errors in published articles: when an author identifies an error or a relevant inaccuracy in her/his article, she/he is obliged to promptly inform the publisher and editors of the journal and to provide them with all the information needed to report the necessary corrections at the bottom of the paper.
